Oreo brownies are one of the most popular of all of my desserts. I am constantly asked to make these for friends, family, and coworkers…it’s always a crowd pleaser. It is a rich, dark, chocolaty brownie with Oreos throughout, and on top is a milk chocolate coating and even more Oreos pressed into the chocolate. Sinful. But so worth it. 🙂
1/2 cup plus 1 tbsp. Hershey’s Cocoa Special Dark
¾ cup hot water
2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, chopped
5 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
2/3 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1 large egg yolk
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
2 ¾ cups sugar
1 3/4 cups plus 2 tbsp.all-purpose flour
¾ tsp. salt
20 Oreos, divided
¼ cup milk chocolate chips
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
Step 1: Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the chopped chocolate. Mix over low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted. Pour into a large bowl. Pour the hot water into the bowl and in the cocoa powder.
Step 2: Pour 2/3 cup vegetable oil into the chocolate mixture and beat at low speed until combined. Add the eggs, egg yolk, and vanilla extract and beat for about 30 seconds. Add the sugar and beat until completely combined. Beat in the flour and salt. Crush 8 Oreos and stir into the brownie batter. Bake at 350 degrees in a 13×9 in. pan for approximately 35-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center is almost clean, but still has a few chocolate bits. I like to undercook the brownies slightly, because they will continue to cook once they are removed from the oven.
Step 3: Let the brownies cool. Microwave the chocolate chips in a bowl for about 50 seconds. Stir in 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and continue to stir until it is completely melted (microwave for another 10-20 seconds if necessary). Pour over the brownies and spread out so the chocolate coats the entire surface. Crush the remainder of the Oreos, spread over the top of the brownies, and press down so it lies firm. Refrigerate for approximately 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is set but not hard.
Step 4: Cut the brownies and enjoy!
