I made this recipe for New Year’s Eve, and I think it was my favorite appetizer of the night. Sweet yet savory, these little bites are bursting with flavor. The bacon gives a nice smoky crispness to the hot dog while the brown sugar adds a rich sweetness that is balanced out by the chili powder. If you like a little spice in your life, add a pinch (or two) of cayenne. I’ve also tried this recipe with turkey cocktail franks, and they were just as good…and half the fat!
These are an easy appetizer for any gathering…and they will be a hit for sure. 😊 Ingredients:1 package cocktail franks1 package bacon¾ cup light brown sugar½ tsp. chili powderA few pinches of cayenne pepper (optional) Also needed: toothpicks, aluminum foil, and cooking spray Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil and coat with cooking spray.
2. In a small bowl stir together the brown sugar, chili powder, and cayenne pepper.
3. Using a paper towel, pat the franks dry. Cut each slice of bacon into thirds. Wrap a piece of bacon around a frank, then place the frank in the sugar mixture and turn to coat. Secure the sugar-coated frank with a toothpick and place on the baking sheet. Continue this process until all of the franks are coated.
4. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until the bacon is crisp but not burnt.
Enjoy!<
