Beer Bread

Beer bread confuses some people. When I first started making it for family parties and gatherings with friends, some were hesitant to try it fearing it would taste like beer. I assure you, it does not! The beer just gives the bread a fantastic, slightly yeast-like essence that makes it taste like it took you hours to make. But really, it couldn’t be simpler! No waiting to let it rise, just mix and bake. The result is this delicious, savory yet slightly sweet bread that people will absolutely love (trust me). 

I like to serve beer bread with spinach dip or a warm cheese dip, but you can also just slice it and enjoy with a little butter or jam.

Or make French toast…

Seriously, anything goes with this bread. 




3 cups sifted flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
¼ cup sugar
1 can light beer
4 tablespoons butter, melted





1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.  Add the beer and about 1 tablespoon of the melted butter and mix until completely blended.


2. Transfer the mixture into a greased bread pan. Pour the rest of the melted butter on top. I like to use a knife or a spoon to be sure that the butter is spread over the entire top, and I also wedge the knife around the sides to allow some butter to trickle down the sides to the bottom of the pan.  I like a nice buttery crust! 

3. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the top has lightly browned.  Let cool at least 30 minutes before cutting.
